Hey dude, really sorry about what happened. Some people just lack empathy and think they're entitled to everything if they're paying and can berate and belittle anyone they want. I especially hate people who take their anger out on service workers, cleaners or waiters. They are humans too.
Coming to your experience, you're gonna meet more such people in the future because there are a lot more douchebaf families like these. Be strong and ignore these people. Just do the bare minimum and if things start escalating, take help of your manager. Do not engage them, as they're waiting for you to snap so that they can lay the entire blame on you.
Oh and, Happy New Year ! Rest well, take a day off and relax.
