Why are you afraid of your rating falling? Having a higher rating without playing does not mean you actually are at that level.

Firstly, play 10-20 games and let the rating match your actual skill level.

Since your rating is close to 300, learning anything specific will not much useful. Instead try these steps :

1. Learn basic opening principles (Do not learn the openings because you don't need them until about 800-1000 rating).

2. Solve puzzles on chess.com (there should be a Puzzle Rush option use it and solve them as much as you can on survival mode).

3. Learn very basic types of checkmate patterns

4. Play games in the 15|10 or 10 minutes category since you need time to think before making a move. Do NOT play blitz games for now. It depends more on instincts rather than skills.

You can still make it, just because someone started earlier and grind harder doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be more successful I mean have you seen how many people play cs or valorant for years and years for thousands of hours and they’re still stuck on bronze or whatever. Loads of people mindlessly grind with no direction in life just so they can have a linear trajectory but life doesn’t work that way. You can still make it and you can be even better all you gotta do is be smart about things, plan them out and have realistic expectations for every step and ideally work this out with a therapist or a coach or a career counsellor.
