i live next to SIPCOT, since you are coming here for internship I'm assuming you will be working around here i can assure you public transport is really good here, sometimes though the public transport is disappointing like at times when i have to catch a bus from Sholinganallur to marina mall (yes that's the bus station name) its hard to find a bus going this side at times of the day. mostly around 1-3 pm and 6-8 pm the frequency of buses coming this side reduces or they are just jampacked because of office timings. Also for the past 2 months buses have started accepting UPI as a mode of payment which makes it much easy to travel. I don't use any app for public transport but the MTC app is good is what i have heard. metro and local train are also good but only in the main city. near the Sholinganallur area metro is still under construction but it should open up by 2026.

authentic local cuisine in my experience as a first timer you should try out murugan idly shop(pure veg) and if you want seafood, then some of my personal picks in this area are:

junior kupanna - amazing seafood but slightly on the expensive side

Seacrest ECR - expensive but good place to hang out with your friends and seafood is good

savoury sea shell - good food at decent price (it is an Arabian cuisine restaurant, so they have overall really good non-veg food)

there are a few more restaurants but personally if i wanna have seafood i just go to kovalam beach to the road side shop's, not the best looking but the best vibe and also significantly cheaper than other places and you get to eat next to the beach. same goes for marina beach, seaood is pretty good there aswell but travelling is the only issue.

special mention - kabab court on ecr - idk if they have seafood but their non veg gravies and breads are just amazing, they have Lucknowi and Mughlai cuisine. their chicken tikka and butter chicken are just too good, id go the length to say that hey might be serving one of the best north Indian food in Chennai.

And here in the US, I lived in an indian dude's home for 5 days before i moved in with my american friend. And they speak so fucking loudly in public that sometimes I also get looks whenever I stand next to them in public and i move away.
