If you're alone and you don't have too many bags just go by a train. It's wayyy too hectic to travel by car from Mumbai to surat. Just last week i left for mumbai airport from surat at around 7 PM and when i reached the airport it was 2 AM. So 7 hours, and we only stopped once for a few minutes along the way. Before that when I was coming to surat from Mumbai airport i left at 1 PM and reached surat around 8 PM. So if you travel by car it's gonna take you at least 6-7 hours. Trains are much much more convenient especially if your schedule allows you to travel in vande bharat.
