You need to build visibility and this requires effort. I would say you dont have to buy it - and thats why I have a White Hat icon Avatar on here. Some say you can't do it without but there are a lot of us who dont and who build our backlinks the old fashioned way.

One of the best is joint go-to-market strategies. The second is really great PR - e.g being a though leader, having a lot of data to help people build articles, join podcasts, joint ventures. For example, Microsoft and AWS invest a lot in helping products in their marketplaces - and if you've something really unique you could get a blog post - e.g. a feature in Technet etc

There are also industry awards - and if you're able - you could even start the awards (i.e. giving others awards and have them blog about you in gratitude - its only limited by creativity
