I don’t believe in organized religion. I feel we’re all praying to the same God, the same energy—just given different names, stories, and rules, mostly as a means to control people.

But I’m not a complete non-believer. I find peace in believing that a universal energy is watching over all of us, but not in a conditional way—“I will love you only if you follow my rules.”

I distanced myself from organized religion because its gods often seemed selfish, burdened with endless rules and restrictions. Why can’t we simply choose to be good? Why must morality be dictated by strict religious codes?

I don’t know if my perspective is right or wrong, but I’ve seen many who rigidly follow religious rules act with such cruelty that I can’t help but think that if heaven is filled with people like them, wouldn’t it feel like hell? I want no part of that kind of paradise.
