It's a good practice to get the transfer process done along with the seller/buyer in person imo. I insist that the buyer/seller to come with me to the RTO to get the process done, and only then part with the vehicle.

My friend sold his R15 v2 and the buyer didn't change the ownership despite promising the same. Since that experience 14 years ago we're extremely careful with this stuff.

In this case I understand the seller's sentiment, it can prove troublesome to them in the future.
