It's not their fault either, some of them migrated from other platforms where war goes in the comments section and the same behaviour is demonstrated by them everywhere they go as well. Simply see their account activity (this is my 3rd account on reddit, done my fair share of trolling)


It's an innate wish to win at least somewhere in their lives, To keep the sense of who they are, and what they believed in.


Reddit was once tagged with "community not to mess with" (similar to 4chan), its still that to some extent with some communities atleast, but its been diluted with other social platforms. I'm not negetive about this at all, because Reddit has to earn its keep as well and so its understandable.


Now, You can find negative/grumpy new members, but also good old Reddit trolls that will say anything to get a reaction (or a laugh) and look negetive but they'll just move post to post and enjoy the trolling/genuine comments.


If this bothers you, You can definitely troll them back if you're up to that downhill battle, maybe you can also win a few of them, or comment and move onto other posts. (Theres plethora of content and anonymous accounts).
