I resonate a lot with what you have said.
But with few caveats.

First is Disrespect to local language and culture. This is very very wrong. People need to understand that there is a limit to which someone can be accommodated. Pushing my choices onto somebody else is simply wrong.

Second, no one expects non-natives like me to be fluent. I am certainly not. But based on my interactions with people, I have picked up general terms, words and can speak a fair bit while shopping for groceries.

My Akka who sells vegetables near my apartment is one of those always smiling ladies who tells me the final amount in Kannada and English. And then I sometimes surprise her by telling the amount in Kannada. It’s this kind of wholesome exchanges which has helped me fall in love with this city.

Now, I perfectly expect my daughter to be fluent in Kannada because she is growing up here. And I expect myself to evolve and learn the language enough to be able to converse with people without resorting to Hindi or English.

Just my two cents.

I moved out because of lack of space and the area too. The expenses makes me depressed a bit but at least I’m not concerned about my safety space or hygiene. Parents did not move out with me because they like their place, but I’m too old to live in accordance of what they like and dislike. When will you pick yourself first? Suburbs are cheaper wrt rent, just do it.

I've done this. It felt liberating but such experiences are very subjective. I suggest, if you're going, go with an open mind and then we can share our experiences. People get opinions and feel meditation didn't work for them because they didn't have similar experiences. So be as open and observant of your own body as possible.

They are very strict and you have to take a vow of silence for 10 days. Not even eye contact. Schedule is stringent and starts at 4AM. Food is provided just enough for the body to function but you'll hardly pay attention to your appetite.
