I could be wrong, but I get the impression you haven't gone super deep into why they want to keep things as they are. I would seek to understand why they are doing XYZ thing, and then use that information to be more convincing and help meet the goals they are shooting for...they could have a really good reason (though probably they don't).

Maybe they think that all that text on the homepage is really good for ranking their homepage. But, actually all their homepage traffic is direct/paid, and almost none of it is organic, so you can help correct their misunderstanding.

You can also run a split test with new version of the page vs. old version and see if your idea will actually get more conversions (probably your new version will win, but split tests are never a sure thing!).

If you're appealing to "I am an SEO expert, therefore you should listen to me", then you're using the same approach I used to use a few years back...and I was not as persuasive as I could have been!
