I would have much rather become long term unemployed NEET at 50 than at 30 (33 now). Hypothetically I would have the had the means and career experience to rebuild. Or maybe even called it a day, started driving Uber on a very part time basis, and coasted until I could collect retirement payments.

The thought of starting where 15 year olds start at my age, like bagging groceries in a grocery store, is incredibly depressing, overwhelming, and humiliating for me. If I could even get hired to do that. I’m sure I’m at the bottom of the list for those jobs based on my age, and the fact what work experience I have is well outside of the retail industry.

“You can go back to school and start over at any age…” I think is a very unhelpful feel-good cliche. Lets say I enrolled in school next fall. I would be in my later 30s by the time I get out.
