I keep a list of apps/packages to install, and notes on settings for each. Once or twice a year I do a complete erase and reinstall with a bootable USB drive. The process of setting up macOS and my apps again forces me to consider what I really need and how I want it set up. Sometimes I’ll “archive” my notes for an app that I don’t need/want any more.
