Hinduism is not like the Abrahmic religion. You get what you sow. Pretty much karma based. If you do good, good comes back to you. You can drink but also do good in everything you do it cancels ❌ out bad karma. But remember self sadhana, extreme devotion to your deity of choice will bring you to a higher level of spirituality. Being a Hindu means accepting the fact that we are mortals and we will carry our karma to the next life. You may not get caught now but it will affect your next life. The thing is you may think that as long as you are not getting hurt now in this life you should be ok but one thing you need to remember is that you will be YOU in the next life too. So, it affects YOU alone no matter what. The fact that you are suffering in this life is a reflection of your past life karma. Your past life soul probably thought it is ok as long as they are happy in that life but YOU are suffering in this life. Just think of it as a fresh start every time to YOU but not to your soul. The soul is very old.
