Sometimes, I really wonder, what did Uttarakhand actually gain after becoming part of India?


The British, despite being colonizers, built institutions like FRI, IMA, and IIT Roorkee (formerly Thomason College). Under their rule, Uttarakhand had tribal protections under the 5th Schedule, safeguarding our land and culture.


But in 1972, the Uttar Pradesh government revoked these protections, leaving our land open to exploitation.


Since then, what has India given us? Nothing but destruction. Forests were cleared, dams were built, and entire villages were submerged. The Chipko Movement of 1973 wasn’t just about hugging trees, it was a fight against the central government’s exploitation of our forests. But did it stop? No


For decades under Uttar Pradesh, we faced neglect, persecution, and systemic discrimination.… We fought for statehood, became a separate state, but what changed?…… Uttarakhand is still being looted only the faces have changed.


In the name of National development many Dams were built, submerging entire villages, yet many parts of Uttarakhand still don’t have electricity......


Roads are broken, healthcare is nonexistent, and quality education and job opportunities are nowhere to be found.... Villages are turning into ghost towns, and instead of real development, they are turning our religious places into tourist hubs, completely ignoring the real issues of the state..... And what do they focus on? Building statues of Shivaji and Maharana Pratap, who probably never even saw snow in their lifetime..

Meanwhile, our own history is being erased.... No one remembers **Veer Bhad Madho Singh Bhandari,** the man who established the modern border between Tibet and Garhwal, the very border inherited by India and China today.
