Cat death at kachrali talao

Hey, we all know the cats and the kittens at kachrali talao. My dad goes there for a morning walk daily. Today he said he noticed alot of kittens dead, blood coming out of their mouth and even the adult being dead. Some old aged guy came to the lake took a big stick to put the body aside. Any idea how itdve happened? My dad says they were alive a day ago. I come from a science, rather zoology background, and I see no reason for multiple deaths within 12-24 hours. Thoughts?
