Hoping for a Fair Share
* Bachawat Tribunal allocated united AP 811 TMC of water in 1976. The government has split into 512:299 TMC for AP and TG based on needs at that time. * Andhra region had more Krishna projects, so they claimed 66% of the share, as there was a disparity in project allocation for Telangana in the combined state. * Telangana was formed in 2014 with no major Krishna projects. * Telangana demands water based on catchment area, and demand utilization as the Bachawat Tribunal said. * AP wants project-wise allocation and also keep its 66% share intact. * Telangana is asking for a fair share based on present and future demands, land, and catchment(70% catchment area falls in the TG region), not the old projects. * AP is trying to delay proceedings and keep the old 66:34 ratio. * The tribunal yesterday prioritized hearing the arguments from Telangana regarding the inter-state allocation of Krishna water. After resolving the state quotas, it suggested that project-wise allocation could be addressed next (in February). Hope, we get a fair share of the allocation of Krishna water.
