Drawbacks in thematic MF

I have investing in 2 mutual funds, and then I need to add icici prudential energy growth fund, I heard some investors suggest me to avoid thematic because of cyclic. My thought is energy growth in India in upcoming years sure it has potential.as population growing the demand for energy is necessary for everyone. What's your thought.
