Is it illegal?

I am new to the stock market. I bought TRENT at a high price of 7300, and since then, the stock has been falling every day. For the past 4 days, I have been selling my stock and shorting 3 more every day, then buying them back before the market closes. My question is: if everyone knows the market is falling, why is this method suggested less often compared to averaging?
