For tech startups is getting acquired much harder than going to zero? I will not promote

It seems like for software tech startups, getting acquired doesn’t seem too hard? If that’s the case then a retention package could still be a win for the team. Or am I wrong here and going to zero is just much more likely and even an acquisition is an accomplishment.
