What is the best SEO strategy to separate one courses into two distinct pages without losing rankings or misleading users?
I have a problem with my course page titled Accounting & Finance Course in London. The page performs well for keywords related to "Accounting Course" and "Accounting & Finance Course." However, it is not ranking for "Finance Course" or finance-related keywords. Our Managing Director suggested separating the Accounting and Finance courses into two separate pages. However, the challenge is that we have built backlinks for both accounting and finance courses to this single page over the last six years. If we create a new page for the Finance Course, there’s a concern that removing finance-related content from the existing page might mislead users and negatively impact its search engine rankings, particularly for accounting-related keywords. Proposed Solution I am considering the following approach: Keep the finance-related content on the current page temporarily while creating a new page dedicated to the Finance Course. Gradually build traffic to the new Finance Course page. Once the new page gains traction, completely remove the finance-related content from the Accounting & Finance Course page. The primary issue is that the current URL is heavily associated with Accounting, and we need to focus it solely on accounting-related content. Is this a good approach, or are there other suggestions?5
