Most writers are terrible at blog introductions
I spend hours explaining this to Writers every week No one is Googling to hear about: "The constant changes in the technological landscape" "It's a common issue that many businesses face" “Today’s rapidly changing times” Instead of opening with: \- Cliches \- Generalisations \- Sweeping statements \- School research paper-like monologues \- Rhetorical questions with obvious answers Take time to understand the reader. \- Their journey to the post \- Their expertise level \- Their pain point Imagine a small business owner searching for the 'best payroll software' to pay their employees more efficiently. They don't need to be told things like: “Most growing businesses will need a payroll solution at some point in their lives.” "Paying your employees accurately and promptly is one of the most critical elements of running a business." They obviously know why they need the software, they're just trying to understand which is right for them. Show the reader that you understand them and their needs. Answer these questions before writing the introduction: \- Who is the reader? \- What are their pain points? \- How did they get to your post? \- What is the specific angle of your post? \- How is your post original and different from others? Then make sure your introduction is: \- Written at the reader's expertise \- Straight to the point of the matter \- Clear on why they should read on \- Focused on the reader's problem \- Briefly mention what you do \- Short and concise This ensures that when someone lands on the article, they get what they want and actually spend time reading it instead of just going back, increasing the bounce rate.4
