Internal linking with id arguments?
Client had an extremely large WP site where they have implemented all their internal linking with an archaic id tracking parameters embedded in each link (old system used that to track internal linking and customer path). We are removing all these internal links so they go to the true canonical url but question how much that old approach hurt seo ultimately. I assume Google can handle that dumb old approach and still pass authority and understand the site structure. But should we anticipate removal of irrelevant tracking parameters will improve seo (or potentially inspect seo negatively)? Many thanks. I’ve not encountered a site before that used such a weird system to track internal traffic.3
