Did I dodge a potential scam ?

Asking Punekars coz the same post is getting deleted in Mumbai sub instantly. I work at Belapur, Navi Mumbai. After having a tea break while I was returning to work, opposite to Belapur Station, 2-3 people in Police Constable uniform handed me a laminated document and a diary and started telling me about some orphanage charity. They were speaking in Marathi, but I got the crux that they wanted money for some orphanage relief(as per them). The diary they handed to me had entries of around Rs 2000, Rs 1000, Rs 500 etc adjacent to donor's name. But then it hit me, since when Police Constables started asking for welfare money roaming on roads and near tea stalls. I handed them their stuff and started returning to my office, during which they said "Sir Dil se do to 1 Rupaya bhi chalega", but I didn't listen and went away. Was it a potential scam ?
