Working people living alone with a cat(or any pet), how does it work out?

I from a long time was willing to adopt a cat. I currently live alone in a 1 BHK, and I have a hybrid workspace, I need to go to office twice a week but I had a lot of doubts when it came to making a decision whether to adopt one or not. I know it would come up with a lot of responsibility which I am mentally ready for, but things like is it safe to keep it alone at home on days I have to go to work, it's stay on days where I might be away from town for a couple of days, it bugs me out a lot. If any of you who have a similar work or living environment as mine and have a pet, please do respond or reach me out.
