Whats with bike dealers not offering test rides / not eager to sell bikes ?
Went to couple of dealers last weekend. **KTM** \- I asked for a quote for the Duke 250 and they asked me to visit the local KTM dealer. I went on Sat afternoon. The showroom is dark, dingy. The lady whom I spoke on phone earlier could not even recollect that she spoke. After some discussion, she remembered. I asked if they had a test bike for a test ride. They have a display bike and there were no keys, so not much to see apart from the seat height (perfect for me as I am 5'4"). Bike is light weight. I strongly suspect the display bike they have is a delivery bike. Pity for the dude who will be buying it. Me asking for a test bike felt like they were hearing it for the first time. They do not have a test bike, and dont even know when it will be available. I asked for a quote which I got on Sunday afternoon. 1.5 days for sharing a quotation over WhatsApp. Absolutely no one to walk me around the bike, explain the features, why the bike is good. **Royal Enfield** \- I went today morning. There was no one around except for one guy who looked like the manager or "saheb". I said I had come to have a look at the bikes on 350 platform and was not sure on what bike I would prefer. He asked me to take a look around. The showroom looked well lit, they had all bikes on display. But again, no one to walk me through or explain anything about the bike. I said I would want to test drive. Said I would get a 5 min one. The overall experience felt like "*lena hain toh le lo, warna kattt lo*". I said I need atleast a couple of kilometers long - I was considering the Meteor 350 so would want one on the highway as well. They decline. I walk straight out of the dealership. PS : Classic 350 Goan is amazing to sit at. The weight is pretty much visible on all REs. **TVS**\- Went after the RE to check out the RTR 2004V. Again - no display or test bike. The guy said, he had one in the godown below and went to find it. Employees were telling "*aaj pagaar nahi ayega*". Took about 45 mins to locate it and it was parked next to heavily damaged Jupiter or Activa. The way they handled the bike gave me horrors. The guy barely missed scraping the exhaust on a pillar. The godown was dingly, smelt of ammonia from urine and was dusty. TVS needs to revisit their dealerships. Almost all of them seem disinterested. Do they expect people to buy the expensive non commuter bikes with no test rides and blindly ? Are they simply not interested to sell these bikes ? I mean, these bikes are north of 2 Lakhs, atleast show me around the godamn bike. I am not asking for any premium experience. Is this a brand specific problem or dealers having useless ego ? Tell about your horrible experiences with test rides4
