A couple of weeks ago, a family member was admitted to a hospital in Mangalore. During the discharge process, I went through the bill for investigations, blood tests, and procedures, and the prices seemed excessively high. I got curious and looked up reference prices online, I was shocked. The hospital was charging at least three to four times the market rate for the same tests. I’m not sure if this qualifies as malpractice or just unprofessional pricing, but the disparity was alarming. I wanted to visit independent labs to verify the prices more accurately, but I didn’t have the time. Instead, I checked online to get an idea of the standard market rates.
