how to speak kannada properly ?

sooo, i have lived in north(various states) all my life and its my 1st time coming to banglore to clg and my mother tongue is havyaka i can read and write kannada thou but when it comes to speaking i suck at it, initially i spoke havyaka in hindi accent but nobody seemed to understand it, so i learned to speak few phrases in kannada, people here are nice so i made some friends but the problem is that i dont seem to connect well at all like scl friends. i can speak a failry broken kannada now (along with few words in havyaka) but it doesnt seem to improve at all and i stutter a lot, like many have pointed out that its a translation of hindi and there are few havyaka words these people cant understand. many in my class can speak english, except one so there isnt any comunication gap but due to the above i havent been part of any friend grp im afraid that i will be missing my clg life
