Photos disappearing after rotating in finder

I was using the Quick Actions > Rotate Left on some photos in Finder. A folder would temporarily appear (I can't recall the exact name of the folder, something along the lines of in process) but then it disappears. When I look at the file count in the folder, it is indeed subtracting the rotated file (example, started with 80 files, rotated 3, now file count is 77). When I look for the file in search, it shows it as being in the folder I had it. When I click "show enclosing folder" it reveals the filename greyed out in the original folder. In the program I am using to file transfer from the folder, it still reads the folder as having only 77 files, even though I can open these greyed out files with preview. What is happening?
