logitech 5 button mouse back and forward buttons does not work on Safari, but works on Chrome, edge, Firefox, DuckDuckgo without any additional software.

One of the basic things I like about my Logitech mouse that has 5 buttons, the two on the side on my windows machine function as forward and back in my browser without any additional software, (hate Logitech software) On my Mac, every other browser except Safari also uses these buttons to go forward and backwards with no additional software. is there something I am missing or can configure on safari to make it work without installing more software
