Window dragging?

WTH happened to the window dragging? I feel like I'm fighting the OS every time I try to maximize a window. Now it draws the boxes for positioning but when I choose the full screen box, it leaves this annoying space buffer around the window. And then I try and drag the corner of the window to the full corner of the screen, and it draws all those damn positioning boxes everywhere. I don't like to make the window actually full screen, just stretch it out all the way. Has anyone else noticed this? Honestly, I don't really know how to explain it, but something just doesn't feel right...
