What is `replicatord` and other new mysterious daemons in Sequoia?
I run Little Snitch on my mac, call me paranoid or maybe just curious about what my devices are talking about within my network. I've started seeing more alerts for new Apple signed daemons trying to communicate with other devices and one of which is `replicatord`. In the past, I've been able to find at least some information from the on-board man pages (EG `rapportd`, `transparencyd` and other such *things*) or sometimes I've been able to see some contextual information provided by Objective Development (the authors of Little Snitch). however, more recenlty I'm seeing more daemons creeping into existance with little or no information on what they do. `replicatord` for instance, does not appear to have a man page, no command line help (no `-h -? -V` etc.) and yet it's talking with all my other Apple Devices. Googling for information just sends me down a rabbit hole of [discussions.apple.com](http://discussions.apple.com) comment garbage, or right back to reddit where someone else asks the same question. The only thing I was able to find was that a companion binary named `replicatorctl` had this interesting XML comment in an associated com.apple.replicatorctl.plist: 3 │ <!-- 4 │ com.apple.replicatorctl.plist 5 │ Replicator 6 │ 7 │ Created by Antony Dzeryn on 12/18/23. 8 │ Copyright (c) 2023 ___ORGANIZATIONNAME___. All rights reserved. 9 │ --> Which led me down a rabbit hole that ended up at a US Patent where Antony J Dzeryn appears, and the patent is somewhat relevant with the idea of replicating notifications throughout a user's device collection: [https://image-ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadPdf/20150350146](https://image-ppubs.uspto.gov/dirsearch-public/print/downloadPdf/20150350146) There are others with *some* useless information, EG `searchpartyd`: man searchpartyd searchpartyd(8) System Manager's Manual searchpartyd(8) NAME searchpartyd – searchparty daemon SYNOPSIS searchpartyd DESCRIPTION searchpartyd is a daemon. There are no configuration options to searchpartyd. Users should not run it manually. Seriously helpful stuff! The Apple Developer pages doesn't appear to have any useful information on these new daemons either. Most of the time a search simply results in "No results found". Does anybody know of a central repository of information related to macOS's many daemons?4
