The right way to update to Sonoma

My MacBook Air M1 is on latest Ventura. I want to update to Sonoma (not Sequoia). What is the best way to do so? 1. Install from AppStore or download disk image, mount and install. 2. If I make Time machine backup will I be able to revert to Ventura?
