macOS Preview - displays PDFs with text shadow and inverted colours

Hi everyone, Could anyone suggest what might be causing macOS Preview to display some PDFs (but not all) in the weird view shown in the attached image please? It shows light coloured text on a dark background, with a trace or shadow of the text projected into the background. The PDFs that appear corrupted display normally on another (older) macOS computer. The only relevant thing I can think that may be different to the baseline macOS configuration is that I installed Quartz as a preparation for RStudio installation a few years ago. Is it necessary to do a complete reinstallation of macOS and all apps again, simple to reinstall Preview? It's a Macbook Air (M2) with the latest version of macOS Sequoia installed.
