macOS photo search - external drive

I have an external drive with 16gb worth of photos. I do not want to import the photos onto my mac's drive and I do not want to import the photos into the photos app. I simply want to search the SSD for photos taken in the year 2009. All photos have exif data. I have tried using Finder to search for date taken but there is no option. Finder gives me options of "Date Created" but this seems to not be the ***date taken*** date. I used to do this in windows easily, I am assuming I am missing someone on mac. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
