Imac mid 2010 stuck on apple logo

Bit of a back story, mate replaced his HDD cause it died, stuck a 1tb drive in, couldn't get ios installed (he was trying to install sierra 😂) then he gave up and installed Windows on it... For some reason. So I downloaded Snow Leopard from Archive.org and used Transmac to make a bootable USB from my windows machine. Deleted windows from the hard drive, opened up the boot options and selected "MacOS install DVD". Now it's just on the Apple logo, I'm not well versed in Apple in the slightest and want to know what to try. TL:DR: Stuck on apple logo whilst trying to install snow leopard from usb.
