Im lost on formatting my external HD. Looking to play media off of it on my tv however...

My tv seems to only read ms dos ex fat. When I try and upload files bigger than 3gb. My mac says its too large. Ive tried formatting numerous other ways and the tv will not read the stick. Any advice?
