GetInfo change default app not working in Sequoia

When I try to apply LibreOffice as default app for .odt files, Mac says "an error occurred while changing the application that opens \[filename\] because not enough information is available. Suggestions? Also, LibreOffice never shows up as one of the choices for default app, I have to choose "Other" and dropdown down to LibreOffice.
