Best way of synchronising two macs

Hey! I have a MacBook Pro and a Mac Mini that I would like to sync, especially the desktop folder and a few other folders. Is iCloud really the best way? I tried it, and it was super slow, even after getting plenty of help from iCloud support. Grateful for any advice!
