Add to Calendar "Action"(?) interfering with text editing and cursor placement
One of the most frustrating things about Apple, computers and tech in general, is when you can't find the answer to an ongoing issue, firstly because you don't even know the "name" of the issue to be able to search for it! Secondly, once you have the name, will you find a solution? – or will you be stumped because no relevant information exists or because of dumb luck and your search comes up empty!! I am currently in the FIRST frustration with an issue that seems to be Finder related (MacMini8,1, Sonoma 14.6.1.)... When in an app whereby I'm editing text, I get a smart type "action" of a "drop-down" arrow with the associated text "boxed-in" when the cursor (or mouse) is near/over some DATE-related text. See included pics. The #1 issue I have is this automatically appearing drop-down from what the Finder thinks is a date of interest interferes with my ability to precisely place the curser where I want it to be with the mouse. The #2 issue I have is I would like to turn this (un-named) "feature" OFF. 99% of the time I want to edit text, NOT add a date to the calendar. ARGHHH!! I have searched far and wide to attempt to define and name this "feature" short of going to an Apple Store/Genius bar. I have tried all sorts of command/control key presses to see if it can be momentarily overridden. Nothing as of yet has disabled it. Anyone know what this is feature called/named and how to control it? Maybe there's a terminal hack like I used to remove the stupid MacOS Sonoma "CAPS LOCK" indicator from interfering with text entry and edit: Link for reference: [https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/caps-lock-icon.2391867/page-3](https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/caps-lock-icon.2391867/page-3) INSTANT UPDATE 12/30/24!! I'll leave this post up in case it helps anyone else. My wife found the "name" and solution. This "feature" is called "Data Detectors" and can be adjusted to be ON or OFF in a non-specific fashion per document app. How to adjust: In an app on your Mac, with a document (or text field or record) open, choose Edit > Substitutions > Data Detectors (checkmark for ON, no checkmark for OFF). Data Detection finds phone numbers, email addresses, street addresses, dates, and times and allows quick data entry into other apps. Love/hate relationship when my wife finds a solution in less than 5 min where I was stumped after a hour. Arghh!! 😉 Not sure where my photos went here? I dropped them in and they showed in the post editor but now I don't see them in this post? WTH Reddit?3
