Clarification on my previous post on this sub
Recently, I shared a news article pic discussing how no amount of white-ball success can truly overshadow India's 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 (BGT) in Australia. I also pointed out that even winning the Champions Trophy (CT) wouldn't fully make up for that defeat. Let me be clear: I'm not suggesting that ICC trophies aren’t important. They absolutely are. However, in my view, the only ICC trophies that carry real significance are the 50-over World Cup and the World Test Championship (WTC). What many people overlook is the monumental achievement of winning a Test series in Australia. For context, it took India 70 years to secure our first Test series victory there, and we followed it up with another consecutive win. This isn’t just about "playing well"; it’s a massive accomplishment. Take the 2003/04 series as an example. We played exceptionally well, yet we couldn’t win the series. To triumph in Australia, a team must perform at an extraordinary level across various conditions, sessions, and critical moments. This is why England hasn’t won a Test series there since 2010/11, and they still hold that success in high regard. Now, let’s talk about ICC trophies. While they are prestigious, they have become much more common occurring every year or two. For instance, we had an ICC tournament last year, one this year, and another lined up for next year. Can a short tournament featuring just eight teams really compare to the significance of a hard fought Test series victory in Australia? In my opinion, it cannot. Even if we tour to Australia every 2 years, it's still a task to win there. This is why I believe that Test cricket and victories in SENA nations are just as valuable, if not more so, than ICC trophies. Test cricket represents the ultimate challenge, and succeeding in Australia is one of the toughest feats in the sport. Of course, this is merely my perspective. ICC trophies do hold importance, but the legacy of conquering Australia in Test cricket occupies a unique and special place. Many can disagree and that's totally fine. All of us are equally passionate for the game and we can have different views. Here's the previous post: https://www.reddit.com/r/IndiaCricket/s/DV5fDkhdqn4
