Why is it so difficult to be honest in this country ?
Long time pending rant but just wanted to share my experience with getting the GST certificate in India. We were rejected 6 times in the past 6 months with random reasons. We first applied in May 2024 with all the documents needed. Everything was correct and since we applied at the end of the month, they rejected us saying the electricity bill is old. We thought this was genuine and applied again in mid June. This time we were told the office rent agreement with the owner is not notarized when in fact it was. We thought maybe it was a mistake and we had applied too soon. So, this time we waited for a month and applied in August first week. They rejected us again, citing some random issue. At this point, we were sure it wasn't just the documents that were getting us rejected. So we applied again, with everything verified by a CA to check what was happening. This was September. Unsurprisingly, rejected again. Each time it took more than a week to get rejected. So after getting rejected twice again, we went to the gst office to ask them what's wrong and their response was "We have rejected no gst registrations in the past 5 months". At this point, we needed the GSTN, as we had to close a contract with a client. So, we asked them what can we do so that it isn't rejected this time. They told us we need to pay for "extra services" to get it approved and I kid you not, we applied, paid the "extra amount" and got our gst certificate the next day. We did not even submit any new documents. Just like that! We tried our best to be honest and not pay any "extra charges" but how do we deal with this ? This is plain harrasment. And this isn't just one off case. We had a hard time getting our name approved by the MCA portal too. Even after all services are online, why do these corrupt government officials have the power to do this to us. How to still retain the nationalist spirit when registering for a number that will help the government (literally paying them taxes) takes a fair amount of bribe to execute ? I'm not sure why anyone would register a company or do business here with these experiences.3
