When it was revealed that a corridor was to be built, everyone here was happy as we thought that it might be the next step in promoting UP as a tourist spot and renovation of the Temple was the need of the hour as the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, a jyotirlinga is a sacred space for the Mahadev bhakts. But today it has become less accessible to common worshippers like us due to increasing commercialization under the Modi government. Systems like "pay-for-darshan" and VIP privileges have marginalized regular visitors, making daily darshan challenging for local devotees, who traditionally start their day with Mahadev's blessings. This shift from an inclusive to an exclusive culture is stirring discontent among fellow residents, potentially impacting Modi’s standing in his constituency as people have turned negative. Not just this, due to the VIP culture, there is so much barricading and police officials waving their danda everywhere that worshiping the Mahadev is a task, whereas the VIPs can not just worship easily but they can drive in their kafila of Innovas and drop right at the doorstep of the temple, where in reality even two-wheelers create traffic like situation daily. The 2024 polls already hinted at dissatisfaction from the voters, and unresolved issues might provoke a public backlash in the upcoming elections.
