Was this a scam? Two similar encounters outside Ratnadeep in Hitec city
Hey everyone, I recently moved to Hyderabad from Gujarat last month for an internship and had a strange experience today. I wanted to share it here and see if anyone has faced something similar. After work, I stopped by Ratnadeep to buy some groceries. I was on a call with my mom (using earbuds) while heading back to my PG. Outside Ratnadeep, a couple (looked to be in their late 40s or 50s) approached me and asked, "Aapko Hindi aati hai?" I replied yes. They mentioned they were from Maharashtra, had come to the city for work, got separated from someone, and needed help. They said, "Bhai samajh ke madad kar dijiye, kuchh khane ke liye de dijiye. 50 rupees ho to bhi chal jata." They even offered to accept money online if I preferred. When I hesitated and refused, they started requesting more, saying, "Bhai, thoda sa madad kar dijiye," which made me feel a bit pressured. My mom, who was still on the call, told me to leave the place immediately. So, I firmly declined and walked away. What felt strange was that about 50 meters ahead, another couple, around the same age, approached me with a similar line: "Aapko Hindi aati hai?" This time, I didn’t stop and just kept walking. Since I’m new to Hyderabad and unfamiliar with the area, this whole situation felt odd. Was this some kind of scam or just a coincidence? Have any of you experienced something like this here? What should one do in such situations? Would appreciate your thoughts and advice. Thanks!5
