Opinions on Varna and Jati
I will most probably be banned after this post. Varna by karma is an opinion of some, not everyone. Egalitarians believe in transgression of orthodoxy but since this is a free religion, such opinions are free to exist too. Despite some people nitpicking verses and showing "proof" that varna is by karma, no orthodox acharya will ever accept that varna is by karma and not by birth when accepting varna by karma opinion can actually result in attaining a large number of followers and huge donations for their personal upkeep. What exactly is wrong with birth based caste? Why shouldn't one be proud of one's own birth? Dharma Vyadha in Mahabharata retained his varna and caste-based profession and did not try to transgress his birth-based identity. A shudra can also be wise. There is no reason to look down upon one varna or the other based on one's limited understanding. As a shudra, I feel offended when this sub expects me to look down upon my own birth so much so that I have to identify as a brahmin by guna simply because I am religious and do jobs that are usually associated with brahmins in the past. I ask the moderators to change their rules. God gave you a certain birth due to your own deeds. One can be moral and wise in his present state. I need not pretend to be something I am not meant to be. When a Vishnu bhakta performs samashrayanam, he or she attains equal status with all other Bhagavan's daasas or devotees when it comes to the right to call oneself a Bhagavan's devotee. The same does not apply to bodily associations like varna. A brahmana need not always be a bhakta and a shudra need not always be a non-bhakta. The position of being a devotee is the most important identity for a human being, not his birth-based identity. That does not mean one should forgo their birth-based identities. Duties associated with one's own Varna must be executed.3
