Liberation experiences?

Is there anybody here that was in goa during liberation or have heard a vivid experience from someone else? I'm writing a story based during November - december 1961 in Panjim , I had read a few books but they mention only the official or military aspect or just technical procedures and the personal experiences come from people who were politically alert , what would a regular family not much interested in politics know during that time ? What did normal life feel like during that week? Also not probably related but can you still see or get escudos from that era? Do some still exist?
