Could I have done something different?

This was on the NH44 from Hyderabad to Bangalore. I was at around 80-90kmph and the car in front of me brakes hard. I had to make sure there was no one behind me and luckily for me the rapid on the left had moved into the shoulder (kudos to the driver for the quick thinking) The bike in front, I believe had just take a U-turn. The car in front could've have gradually braked but for some reason maybe didn’t see the bike or was distracted while driving… either ways, the braked pretty hard. Was there anything I could’ve done differently? Anything I could’ve done better? For context, I’ve drive up and down this route quite a few times and this is the first time something like this happened.
