I rewatched Jodhaa Akbar and fell in love with Hrithik all over again.
Although he wasn't the perfect casting choice for this movie, as Akbar was reportedly short and not as handsome as him and the film essentially whitewashed his character, the charm he brought to this role is truly amazing. I view this movie not as a historical epic, but rather as a romantic fantasy inspired by the popular folk love story of Jodhaa and Akbar. I wish he would take on more historical roles and films like this. Despite its historical inaccuracies, I still believe Jodhaa Akbar is Bollywood's pinnacle of historical period romance. In my opinion, it even surpasses Sanjay Leela Bhansali's films. Hrithik brought his own unique charm to the movie as Akbar. I often wonder why Hrithik hasn't done more period dramas, subtly ignoring Mohenjo Daro, which was an average film. I was thrilled when I heard rumors of him being cast as Raavan in a Ramayan adaptation, but unfortunately, he backed out of the project. I'd love to see this side of Hrithik more often on screen again, but it seems he's now focused on action movies.5
