What is up with all the spitting ?

I am not talking about Gutkha Spitting. Just general white sticky aggregated saliva. People are just spitting them. Today i was in a traffic stop and i had the pleasure of watching two gentlemen shooting a full of spit out, each on my side. Aren’t you supposed to just swallow the saliva ? Am I wrong here and should start spitting too, to achieve deaging or something?
