No promotion cuz my linkedin status is open to work!
Hey guys, I'm a guy working as a senior data analyst in a startup company since 2 years. The moment I joined the company I thought it would be a great one with a lot of opportunities for me to explore and worked hard. Got 4/5 rating all the time in the performance cycles. But this time around 4-5 months ago I wanted to move out of the organisation as I was not seeing the growth and was having trouble to even login. I then changed my LinkedIn status as open to work due to which the next day my director called me and asked the reason for it. I spoke to him sincerely as to why I feel about moving out and he promised me saying wait till this cycle atleast and if it goes sideways im not gonna stop you and the same discussion happened with hr the next week. I don't know why but I fell for that trap and waited for the cycle to complete. The time comes for my performance feedback and behold it's the same 4 with no promotion. I specifically asked why am I not being promoted to which the manager told me that the board didn't want to promote me because of my LinkedIn status. I asked for an explanation and they said apparently the board was not ok with my status and told that it'd be a very bad representation of the company towards the client and its not a good sign. I was dumbfounded with this vague reasoning and wanted to connect with hr to confirm and yes that was the reason. So now I'm actually wondering if the company is so concerned about employees personal handles why don't they come to the employee and talk to them and address that issues. There was also questions on loyalty which I feel it should be both ways. At this point of time I think it's conclusive that being truthful to yourself and reflect your opinion honestly doesn't come right. Also I'm curious whether this is the case in every company or is it just in my current state of the art company. Folks, need your help in understanding this that if i was right to have my socials to kept open or to fake it till I make it.1
