Objectification of Women by News Live

I was watching News Live this morning, and one particular segment really shocked me. They were awarding something called "Pragya Sundari" (or something similar), where they selected the top 5 most beautiful women from Saraswati Puja celebrations. Seriously? On a festival dedicated to knowledge and wisdom, the focus is on a beauty contest? What even were the criteria for this selection? Who decided that these five women were the "most beautiful"? And more importantly, why is a news channel promoting such blatant objectification of women? Saraswati Puja has long been known for the way girls dress up beautifully, and that’s completely fine. But turning it into an actual competition feels like a regressive mindset. Shouldn’t we be celebrating intelligence, culture, and talent instead of ranking women based on looks?
